Logistics heaven – fast and efficient connections anywhere
Road guardrails, lampposts, mast structures, rock bolts, protruding steel mesh and busbars, store shelf supports, and clothing racks. These are just some of the products that leave Aurajoki Oy’s three surface treatment plant in the Turku region by the truckload every day, bound for construction sites and customers. First, the products arrive at the plant to be coated, and then they are shipped back to the customer.
So, the truck traffic is quite substantial. There are daily round-trip shipments to Helsinki, and in addition, several regular weekly routes are operated through partner companies to Tampere, Rauma, and Lahti. On top of this, there are products loaded onto ships bound for the Swedish and Baltic markets. When the company was looking for a site for a new hot-dip galvanizing plant a few years ago, Lieto was chosen, in part because it offered the best logistical connections in the Turku region.
Hot-dip galvanizing, in particular, involves the transport of large products, towers, and other items intended for outdoor use, and these products are typically installed only during the summer. At that time, it is of paramount importance that the company be able to deliver the galvanized products to construction sites exactly when they are needed there.
Smooth logistics
Smooth logistics are absolutely essential for us. We don’t manufacture anything ourselves in the Turku region, so all products are sent to us either for hot-dip galvanizing at the Lieto or Aura plants, or for electrolytic treatment at the Turku plant. They are then shipped back to the customer. There are also transportation companies located near the hot-dip galvanizing plant in Lieto, so we haven’t purchased our own trucks; instead, we’ve always been able to rely on our partner companies to provide the necessary capacity and availability quickly.
