The new offerings increased the number of passengers at Turku Airport

  • Finavia’s statistics for 2019 show that almost 453 000 passengers used Turku Airport
  • Growth to 2018 was over 22 percent
  • The number of passengers traveling on international routes increased the most

2019 was a busy year at Finavia’s airports even though growth in air traffic was more moderate than in previous years. A total of 26 million passengers (+4,2%) travelled on scheduled and chartered flights.

Turku Airport continued its positive development as the number of passengers increased to 453 000 (+22.6 %). The growth rate of Turku was the highest among Finavia’s airports and about five times higher than the average at airports. Oulu (1 057 000 passengers) and Rovaniemi (661 000 passengers) were the busiest in addition to Helsinki-Vantaa.

Turku’s direct connections to Europe expanded significantly last year. Three quarters of all passengers, 346 000, traveled internationally. At Turku Airport, flights to Gdansk, Poland, had the highest number of passengers in 2019. Turku Airport’s selection of direct routes to European destinations was extended considerably last year. In addition to the Polish destinations, the Stockholm and Riga routes are important. They complement the international connections provided by Helsinki Airport to those using the Turku airport.

In summer 2020, direct flights to Warsaw, Poland will start from Turku Airport. In addition, direct flights to Kutaisi, Georgia will start by the end of the year.
