Current investments in the Turku Ring Road section of the E18 total approximately €408 million, further improving mobility, accessibility and freight transport along this strategic route.

West Railway for Better Connectivity

The West Railway is a planned fast double-track rail connection between Turku and Helsinki designed to improve travel reliability, capacity and accessibility between Finland’s two most significant growth regions.

Its improved connectivity will expand access to talent, customers and business networks, helping create a shared labour market of 1.5 million people and bringing companies closer to Finland’s largest economic centres.

Mobility Infrastructure

The Turku region is one of Finland’s most connected business environments. Companies benefit from access to two international ports, an airport, efficient road and rail connections, and major ongoing transport investments that strengthen connections to Finland, Scandinavia and wider Europe. The region sits at the centre of Finland’s most important growth corridor, placing half of the country’s population and economic activity within a 2–3 hour radius.

Business Impact

Integrated transport connections support efficient supply chains, workforce mobility and international trade. Ongoing investments in the Port of Turku, the E18 corridor and the future West Railway continue to strengthen the region’s long-term accessibility and competitiveness.

Space to Grow

Unlike many larger metropolitan areas, the Turku region offers extensive opportunities for industrial expansion. New industrial sites, logistics hubs and specialised business environments are continuously being developed across the region. Strong grid capacity, reliable utilities and direct access to ports, motorways and the airport create favourable conditions for both manufacturing and logistics investments.

Business Impact

Companies can find locations that match their specific operational requirements, whether they need large-scale industrial plots, logistics facilities, innovation environments or specialised manufacturing sites. Availability of land allows businesses to establish and expand operations without the space constraints often encountered in larger capital regions.

Sites and collaboration opportunities are available for companies of all kinds. Explore the map below to find the best premises, plot, partners or other presence in the region.

The Turku region combines the advantages of a major business and innovation hub with the efficiency of a compact metropolitan area. Companies operate within a two-hour reach of Helsinki yet avoid the congestion and cost pressures of the capital region — putting them close to partners, talent and decision-makers, with everyday logistics that stay fast and predictable. With half of Finland’s population and economic output within a 2–3 hour radius, the region gives companies national reach from a single, well-connected base.

The region’s attractiveness is reflected in migration trends, with Turku ranking among Finland’s leading destinations for net migration, helping companies access a growing pool of talent and expertise.

Business Impact

A cost-efficient operating environment allows companies to allocate more resources to growth, talent, innovation and business development while maintaining access to Finland’s leading industries, universities and international connections.

Key Advantages

More Value for Investmet

The region offers tangibly lower entry and running costs than the capital area. Serviced industrial plots start from around €30/m², zoned and ready business locations are available with fast infrastructure access, and housing costs sit well below Helsinki levels — easing relocation and recruitment.

Finland is also a single national electricity price area with business electricity running at roughly half the European average.

Short Commutes, Efficient Operations

The region is compact enough that ports and an international airport are within about a 30-minute drive of most business areas, and daily commutes stay short.

Less time lost to travel means lower operating friction, better use of the working day and a real quality-of-life advantage when attracting and retaining staff.

The Advantage of Proximity

Companies plug directly into one of Finland’s densest talent and research clusters: around 40,000 higher-education students across the region, anchored by the University of Turku (the country’s second-largest university), Åbo Akademi and Turku University of Applied Sciences. Regional R&D spending reached about €600 million in 2024.

Short distances and established networks turn access into action — making it faster to build partnerships, recruit specialists and move projects from idea to implementation.

Access Without Congestion

The Port of Turku moves over four million tonnes of cargo a year and runs daily connections to Stockholm, Turku Airport offers direct routes to European hubs, and the E18 motorway links the region to Helsinki along its entire length (around 150 km).

The Turku Ring Road ties ports, the airport and industrial zones into one fast corridor, and planned rail investment aims to shorten the Helsinki journey further — all while day-to-day mobility in the region stays efficient and free of capital-city congestion.
