The future of heavy industry is built here – with room, power and water
The Terho brothers—Mikko, Martti, and Mauno—founded Autolava Oy in the 1940s after growing frustrated that a large part of a truck driver’s workday was spent waiting for the truck to be loaded. They began to wonder if there was a more efficient way to do the job and realized that, using a specific technique, a roll-off container could be winched onto a truck, allowing the trucks to always remain productive. This led to the invention of the now market leading MULTILIFT demountables, which was transferred to Hiab through corporate acquisitions in the 1970s and is now the only product manufactured by Hiab Raisio.
The Raisio production facility is currently undergoing a major strategic transformation. New office spaces are being built on the factory grounds, the old factory is being modernized, and a new prototype workshop is also being constructed to support product development. The new energy-efficient facilities are expected to be operational by the end of 2027.
Every day, truckloads of MULTILIFT skiploaders and hooklifts leave Raisio via ports, mainly bound for European markets, but some as far as New Zealand—totaling thousands of units per year. Smooth and improving connections to ports thanks to upgrades to the E18 highway, a reliable electricity supply, the skilled workforce in the Turku region, and the City of Raisio’s supportive cooperation create excellent conditions for manufacturing the units in Raisio.
Reliable infractructure
A stable and functional infrastructure is essential for a factory like this, and we welcome the planned data centre in the area. It signals that the region is being developed systematically and that power availability will remain strong in the future. Turku has good connections to Europe, and our collaboration with the City of Raisio has been excellent over the years. Given the current somewhat turbulent global situation, Southwest Finland is a good base from which to operate.
