Industry plays a key role in mitigating climate change. Carbon dioxide emissions from industry account for a significant proportion of global emissions, so developing and implementing low-carbon solutions is essential to achieving global climate goals.
Low carbon emissions are becoming an important competitive factor for Finnish companies in international competition.
Turku aims to be carbon neutral by 2029. Much has already been done to achieve carbon neutrality. The region’s industry has also taken major steps in reducing emissions, but there is still a long way to go to achieve the carbon neutrality target.
At the same time, solutions are being developed in the Turku region to accelerate the transition to a more sustainable industry globally.
At the November climate coffee event on 18 November at 9–10 on Teams, we will hear about the solutions that industry in the Turku region and Finland more broadly have for mitigating climate change. Janne Peljo from the Confederation of Finnish Industries will open the climate coffee event by talking about Finland’s carbon footprint in exports and its potential to mitigate climate change globally.
We will also hear two practical examples of more sustainable industry when Maiju Karsikas from Sandvik and Heikki Huttunen from Bayer present their operations and low-carbon solutions.
