Preserving biodiversity is important for both businesses and society as a whole. According to the World Economic Forum, more than half of the world’s gross domestic product depends on nature.
Therefore, the risk of biodiversity loss affects almost all business activities, at least through value chains. Safeguarding biodiversity requires us to understand the impact of our activities on nature and find ways to reduce it. Calculating our ecological footprint provides concrete indicators for this.
The City of Turku aims to be nature-positive by 2030, by which time the city’s activities and other activities in the Turku area as a whole will not weaken or reduce biodiversity, but rather strengthen it.
At the October coffee meeting on 21 October at 9–10 on Teams, we will hear how calculating the ecological footprint works in practice. Greenstep will share its experiences of measuring the ecological footprint and ways in which companies can assess their impact on nature and develop their nature work. In addition, the University of Turku will talk about its nature footprint calculation process last year and its key results.
Program:
- Opportunities for companies in nature conservation and Greenstep’s ecological footprint calculation, Anna Liedes, Greenstep
- The University of Turku’s ecological footprint calculation, Petteri Siika-aho, University of Turku
