The European Union’s sustainable finance classification system, or taxonomy, establishes criteria for what constitutes environmentally sustainable business. It will guide the activities of financiers and create reporting obligations for large listed companies. The taxonomy will also affect the activities of smaller companies, as investments are likely to be directed more strongly towards projects and acquisitions that meet the taxonomy criteria.
An essential part of the taxonomy is the “Do no significant harm” principle, which means that one environmental objective of the taxonomy cannot be promoted at the expense of other objectives. Implementing this principle requires analysis and a systematic approach to ESG issues.
To be successful in the future, companies need to be aware of the taxonomy as a whole and understand how it affects their own field of activity. The webinar series covers the taxonomy as a whole and how it should be taken into account in business operations.
Business Turku is organising the Taxonomy Thursday webinar series as part of its Green Transition activities. The webinar will be recorded and the materials will be delivered to registered participants after the event.
